Kanha National Park, vicinity of which inspired the setting of Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book, is home to a healthy population of Royal Bengal Tigers. Moreover, it is the only ecosystem in the world that supports a population of Hardground Swamp Deer – Barasingha, Kanha’s official mascot. The Sal and Savanna meadows of the reserve are home to many mammals such as the Spotted-Deer, Wild boar, Sambhar Deer, Indian Gaur Bison, Wild Dog, Leopard and Black Bear, amongst others. Birds such as Serpent Hawk-Eagle, Lesser-adjutant Stork, Egyptian Vulture and Red-naped Ibis etc. are also found. The Ghost Tree remains a lasting floral rarity.
