Botany at Tathastu

Our director Mr. Ashok Agarwala probably has a green heart rather than a green thumb!!
His kitty of over 1500 species of plants within Tathastu, including many forest and medicinal varieties, may probably make it one of the biggest plant collections.

Enjoy a walk around with our head Gardener or Naturalist if you have an interest in Botany or Natural beauty!

Walks in Buffer

Pench is rich in bird life too. According to an estimate of the wildlife authorities, the park is home to more than 210 species including several migratory ones. Some of them are Peafowl, Jungle fowl, Crimson-breasted Barbet, Red-vented Bulbul, Racket-tailed Drongo, Indian Roller, Magpie Robin, Lesser Whistling Teal, Pintail, Shoveller, Egret and Herons, Minivet, Oriole, Wagtail, Munia, Myna, Water Fowl and Common Kingfisher.

Trip to Sitakassa Backwaters

Situated about 50km away from Tathastu, Sitakassa backwater is an area submerged underwater after the dam was built in 2011. The dam is built on the river Bawanthadi that flows through the rich teak forests of Pench.

The birdlife in the riverine forests around here is amazing. From tits, warblers, orioles, flycatchers, owls, etc. to eagles, buzzards and lots more can be easily found. The water here is also a fisherman’s treat. An early morning fishing session can be rewarding with carps while the evening session can be good for predatory fishes like snakeheads, Murrells, Catfish, etc. We also combine these excursions with a sit-down picnic lunch.

Amodagarh – Birth Place Of MOWGLI

Rudyard Kipling used the forests in the vicinity of Seoni, or as he spells it, Seeonee, as the setting for the Mowgli stories in The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book (1894–1895), although the area is not an actual rainforest. Amodagarh is a place offered by Seoni tourism to its visitors as the action ground of “Mowgli”.

This place is situated on the Seoni-Mandla state highway. From Amodagarh tourists can see the remains of the palace of Sona Rani. The place lies at a distance of approximately 10 kilometers from Chhui and about 32 kilometers from Seoni. This outing can be combined with dinner at a ‘khatia-wala-dhaba’ on the return journey.
